to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit:<br>&nbsp;&nbsp; that the Gentiles are coheirs, members of the same body,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp; and copartners in the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Acclamation before the Gospel<br><\/strong>Mt 2:2<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u211f.&nbsp;<strong>Alleluia, alleluia.<\/strong><br><br>We saw his star at its rising<br>and have come to do him homage.<br><br>\u211f.&nbsp;<strong>Alleluia, alleluia.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-pane kt-accordion-pane kt-accordion-pane-9 kt-pane_e1578a-c4\"><div class=\"kt-accordion-header-wrap\"><button class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-header kt-acccordion-button-label-show\"><span class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-title-wrap\"><span class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-title\"><strong>Gospel<\/strong><\/span><\/span><span class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-icon-trigger\"><\/span><\/button><\/div><div class=\"kt-accordion-panel\"><div class=\"kt-accordion-panel-inner\">\n<p>Mt 2:1-12<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2720\u00a0<strong>A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew<\/strong><br><br>When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea,<br>\u00a0\u00a0 in the days of King Herod,<br>\u00a0\u00a0 behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying,<br>\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cWhere is the newborn king of the Jews?<br>We saw his star at its rising<br>\u00a0\u00a0 and have come to do him homage.\u201d<br>When King Herod heard this,<br>\u00a0\u00a0 he was greatly troubled,<br>\u00a0\u00a0 and all Jerusalem with him.<br>Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes of the people,<br>\u00a0\u00a0 he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.<br>They said to him, \u201cIn Bethlehem of Judea,<br>\u00a0\u00a0 for thus it has been written through the prophet:<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<em>And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah,<\/em><br><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;<\/em><br><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 since from you shall come a ruler,<\/em><br><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 who is to shepherd my people Israel.\u201d<\/em><br>Then Herod called the magi secretly<br>\u00a0\u00a0 and ascertained from them the time of the star\u2019s appearance.<br>He sent them to Bethlehem and said,<br>\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cGo and search diligently for the child.<br>When you have found him, bring me word,<br>\u00a0\u00a0 that I too may go and do him homage.\u201d<br>After their audience with the king they set out.<br>And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them,<br>\u00a0\u00a0 until it came and stopped over the place where the child was.<br>They were overjoyed at seeing the star,<br>\u00a0\u00a0 and on entering the house<br>\u00a0\u00a0 they saw the child with Mary his mother.<br>They prostrated themselves and did him homage.<br>Then they opened their treasures<br>\u00a0\u00a0 and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.<br>And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod,<br>\u00a0\u00a0 they departed for their country by another way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Gospel of the Lord.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All reply:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fad899\"><strong>Reflection<\/strong><br><br>On the Solemnity of the Epiphany of Our Lord, we celebrate Jesus\u2019 manifestation as the Messiah of Israel and the Saviour of the World.\u00a0 Matthew introduces us to the Magi who had travelled from the East to Jerusalem, asking, \u201cWhere is the child who has been born king of the Jews?\u201d (v. 2).\u00a0 The Magi were wise men, who searched and humbly inquired, motivated and determined to find the truth.\u00a0 They were gazing towards the heavens for some sign when they saw the star that lit their way to the Lord Jesus.\u00a0 The journey they undertook led them to recognise the infant Jesus as King.\u00a0 \u201cWhen they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy\u201d (v. 10), the joy they experienced was that of one who had received a ray of light from the Lord, the joy of him who had discovered what he was searching for after a long journey.\u00a0 The Magi \u201cOn entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage\u2026they offered him gifts\u201d (v. 11).<br><br>\u201cWhere is the child who has been born king of the Jews?\u201d (v. 2).\u00a0 Upon hearing this question, Herod was frightened because he was dominated by the god of power and pride.\u00a0 Herod also asks a question, with the intention of discovering the \u201cexact time\u201d (v. 7) so that he may, in some way, eliminate anyone who was a threat to his power.\u00a0 On the other hand, although the chief priests and the scribes knew where the Messiah was to be born, they remained passive without taking any initiative.<br><br>The Magi\u2019s journey symbolises a walk of faith.\u00a0 The Lord has a habit of moving us out of our comfort zones, in which we are entrenched, to draw us out of ourselves and encounter Him.\u00a0 When we acknowledge Jesus as our King, we must give him control of our lives while we kneel down and adore Him through a life given over to His service and that of our neighbour.\u00a0 The Magi found Jesus because they were prepared to search for Him.\u00a0 The answer to their question was found written by the prophet in the Holy Scriptures.\u00a0 What about you?\u00a0 Where are you in your faith journey?\u00a0 You may feel stagnated or satisfied with what you have learnt about Jesus in your childhood, or are you continually searching for Jesus in your life?\u00a0 Are you prepared to adore him by sharing your life with others? A Christian\u2019s mission is also an epiphany. Our mission is to carry the light of Christ wherever we go.
