himself will come to save us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah<\/strong><br><br>The desert and the parched land will exult;<br>&nbsp; &nbsp;the steppe will rejoice and bloom.<br>They will bloom with abundant flowers,<br>&nbsp; &nbsp;and rejoice with joyful song.<br>The glory of Lebanon will be given to them,<br>&nbsp; &nbsp;the splendor of Carmel and Sharon;<br>they will see the glory of the LORD,<br>&nbsp; &nbsp;the splendor of our God.<br>Strengthen the hands that are feeble,<br>&nbsp; &nbsp;make firm the knees that are weak,<br>say to those whose hearts are frightened:<br>&nbsp; &nbsp;Be strong, fear not!<br>Here is your God,<br>&nbsp; &nbsp;he comes with vindication;<br>with divine recompense<br>&nbsp; &nbsp;he comes to save To see a prophet?<br>Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.<br>This is the one about whom it is written:<br><em>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you;<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;he will prepare your way before you.<\/em><br>Amen, I say to you,<br>&nbsp; &nbsp;among those born of women<br>&nbsp; &nbsp;there has been none greater than John the Baptist;<br>&nbsp; &nbsp;yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.\u201d<br><br>At the end of the Gospel, the Deacon, or the Priest, acclaims:<br><br><strong>The Gospel of the Lord.<\/strong><br><br>All reply:<br><br><strong>Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fad899\"><strong>Reflection <\/strong><br><br>\u201cGo back and tell John what you hear and see.\u201d&nbsp;<br><br>Experiencing Jesus is not something imaginary, fictitious or abstract.&nbsp;<br><br>Experiencing Jesus is tangible: and engages our senses; you can hear it and see it!&nbsp;<br><br>Thus, the testimony of these two disciples was one that could be believed: because they themselves saw and heard.&nbsp;<br><br>What did they see and hear?&nbsp;<br><br>Jesus told them: \u201cthe blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them.\u201d&nbsp;<br><br><strong>It would be good if today we ask ourselves, what are we witnesses to?&nbsp; Can we say the same thing Jesus did?&nbsp; Or have we diluted the witness we give?<\/strong>&nbsp;<br><br><strong>What can we say to our contemporary society to convince them that Jesus is the Messiah, the Saviour, the One sent by God?<\/strong>&nbsp;<br><br>Jesus continued by saying, \u201cBlessed is anyone who takes no offense at me.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<br><br><strong>Do we, who believe in Him, take offense at Jesus?<\/strong>&nbsp;<br><br>We are on this journey of Advent.&nbsp; It is good to reflect on what is taking place in our souls at this moment.&nbsp; During this liturgical season, we remember God\u2019s promises about the coming of the Messiah, which has been fulfilled in Jesus.&nbsp; While at the same time we also await God\u2019s promise of the second coming of the Saviour to be fulfilled.&nbsp; This has already begun to be fulfilled from the time of the disciples of Jesus who were first Baptised with the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday.&nbsp;<br><br>God\u2019s promises are powerful and fill us with courage.&nbsp; In today\u2019s First Reading we listen to this promise: Be strong! Do not be afraid!&nbsp;<br>Here is your God; he will come with vengeance. With divine retribution&nbsp;<br>he is coming to save you.\u201d&nbsp;<br><br>This is what He did!
