lying in a manger <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Lk 2:16-21<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And so they set off in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When they saw the child, they recounted the message that had been told them about him.  All who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. As for Mary, she treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as they had been told.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the eighth day, when the time for the child\u2019s circumcision had arrived, he was given the name Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he had been conceived in the womb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Word of the Lord<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>R\/. Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fad899\"><strong>Reflection<\/strong><br><br>The Catholic Church dedicates the first day of the year to our Mother Mary\u2014Mother of God.\u00a0Mary is the\u00a0Mother\u00a0of God because Jesus, her Son\u00a0is both\u00a0God and man.\u00a0We who believe in the Incarnation also believe that Mary can\u00a0rightly bear\u00a0the title of\u00a0Mother of God.<br><br>Today is also known as the Day of Peace.\u00a0Wherever our Mother Mary\u00a0appears,\u00a0whether\u00a0in the Gospels\u00a0or in private apparitions, her presence and her messages\u00a0are\u00a0always\u00a0marked by\u00a0peace.\u00a0Since her Son,\u00a0Jesus,\u00a0came into the world that we may again find peace, then His Mother Mary can only bring peace to humanity. How gravely in need we are of true and lasting peace!<br><br>Yet, it is through solidarity and fraternal unity that we can once again find true peace.\u00a0Personal crises, those\u00a0within our society, and throughout the world\u00a0can only be overcome by the building and strengthening of community\u2014a true community, not enclaves of communities.\u00a0Such enclaves foster\u00a0territorialism and rivalry, which is something we do not want!<br><br>It is good to pray for peace; it is something we should\u00a0all\u00a0do.But this is not enough:\u00a0we must work for peace through our presence, our witness,\u00a0and through our\u00a0actions.\u00a0With\u00a0good will and by a little effort from\u00a0each and every\u00a0one of us,\u00a0in solidarity with\u00a0and for\u00a0each other, we can build a community together.\u00a0Faith in God and faith in the goodness\u00a0that is found in each person, as well as disinterested love for which humanity thirsts strengthen the hope that together we can build a human community.<br><br><strong>Stop and think<\/strong><br>&#8211;\u00a0Do you have peace in your heart?\u00a0If not,\u00a0try to discoverthe reason.\u00a0The more peace you have within your heart, the more you can work for peace.<br>&#8211;\u00a0How much are you working for unity in your community, through both working and socialising?<br>&#8211;\u00a0Do you bring peace by what you say and write?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><strong>Prayer<\/strong><\/p><p>Mary, Mother of Jesus and our mother, do not allow our devotion to you be lip service. Help us to grow closer to your Son by doing our best to become instruments of peace and unity in fraternity with others.
