justice on the earth;<br>the coastlands will wait for his teaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I, the LORD, have called you for the victory of justice,<br>I have grasped you by the hand;<br>I formed you, and set you<br>as a covenant of the people,<br>a light for the nations,<br>to open the eyes of the blind,<br>to bring out prisoners from confinement,<br>and from the dungeon, those who live in The Lord will bless his people with peace.<\/strong><br>The voice of the LORD is over the waters,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;the LORD, over vast waters.<br>The voice of the LORD is mighty;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;the voice of the LORD is majestic.&nbsp;<br><strong>R. The Lord will bless his people with peace.<\/strong><br>The God of glory thunders,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;and in his temple all say, \u201cGlory!\u201d<br>The LORD is enthroned above the flood;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;the LORD is enthroned as king forever.<br><strong>R. Mark 9:7<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>R.&nbsp;<strong>Alleluia, alleluia.<\/strong><br>The heavens were opened and the voice of the Father thundered:<br>This is my beloved Son, listen to him.<br>R.&nbsp;<strong>Alleluia, alleluia.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-pane kt-accordion-pane kt-accordion-pane-20 kt-pane_c09497-23\"><div class=\"kt-accordion-header-wrap\"><button class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-header kt-acccordion-button-label-show\"><span class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-title-wrap\"><span class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-title\"><strong>Gospel <\/strong><\/span><\/span><span class=\"kt-blocks-accordion-icon-trigger\"><\/span><\/button><\/div><div class=\"kt-accordion-panel\"><div class=\"kt-accordion-panel-inner\">\n<p><strong>Matthew 3:13-17<br><\/strong><br>Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan<br>to be baptized by him.<br>John tried to prevent him, saying,<br>\u201cI need to be baptized by you,<br>and yet you are coming to me?\u201d<br>Jesus said to him in reply,<br>\u201cAllow it now, for thus it is fitting for us<br>to fulfill all righteousness.\u201d<br>Then he allowed him.<br>After Jesus was baptized,<br>he came up from the water and behold,<br>the heavens were opened for him,<br>and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove<br>and coming upon him.<br>And a voice came from the heavens, saying,<br>\u201cThis is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Word of the Lord<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>R\/. Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fad899\"><strong>Reflection<\/strong><br><br>John would not allow him \u2026 John allowed him to be baptised<br><br>John was a prophet. He had within him a strong sense of what God desired; he had the ability to see deeply into the heart and into situations, and to speak clearly about them according to what he felt God was showing him. So he saw Jesus. He recognised who he was according to God\u2019s plan: the chosen one, the anointed one, the Messiah. He therefore thought that Jesus should not be regarded as a sinner like the others, and he did not want to allow him to be baptised. But what Jesus says to him changes the way he understands this event of Jesus\u2019 baptism. This means that John accepted Jesus as his Lord, as one greater than himself before God, one who could speak with authority into his life\u2014and he allowed him to be baptised.<br><br><strong>Is there someone in your life who speaks with authority, in God\u2019s name, into your life and into your conduct?<br><\/strong><br>\u201cAnd when Jesus was baptised, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him.<br><br>As a man, for thirty years, Jesus lived like any other Jew. He followed all the religious traditions, learned to read the Torah, the Law of God, and obeyed the Commandments. He lived in Nazareth with his mother Mary and his father Joseph and learned the trade of a carpenter. Everything was ordinary. He went to John to be baptised like hundreds of other Jews. And here the ordinary ends. For the wonders foretold by the prophets began to be fulfilled in him: the Messiah of the living God, the Servant of the Lord. This happened as soon as the Spirit of God descended upon him\u2014that is, anointed him, consecrated him, filled him. Nothing remained the same. From this point on, Jesus began to accomplish the salvation of humanity.<br><br><strong>\u201cAnd behold, a voice from heaven, saying, \u2018This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><br><br>The Father publicly declares that this man from Nazareth is his beloved Son, his delight. For those who believe in God, such a declaration should stir them to make their own public declaration: \u201cThis is my Lord and my Saviour: in him I am well pleased.<br><br>Do you recognise that, as a disciple of Jesus, you have a mandate to proclaim who your Lord is through your words, your actions, and your life? Do you show in your life that this Jesus is the Messiah, the One sent by God?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><strong>Prayer<\/strong><\/p><p>Holy Father, because we are created in the image of your Son and redeemed by him, you too delight in us as your children. Sanctify our ordinary lives, so<\/p><p>that we may allow you to sanctify us through them and to accomplish your will through us.
