the oppressed and the homeless;<br>clothe the naked when you see them,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp; and do not turn your back on your own.<br>Then your light shall break forth like the dawn,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp; and your wound shall quickly be healed;<br>your vindication shall go before you,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp; and the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard.<br>Then you shall call, and the LORD will of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2720\u00a0<strong>A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew<\/strong><br><br>Jesus said to his disciples:<br>\u201cYou are the salt of the earth.<br>But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned?<br>It is no longer good for anything<br>\u00a0\u00a0 but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.<br>You are the light of the world.<br>A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.<br>Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket;<br>\u00a0\u00a0 it is set on a lampstand,<br>\u00a0\u00a0 where it gives light to all in the house.<br>Just so, your light must shine before others,<br>\u00a0\u00a0 that they may see your good deeds<br>\u00a0\u00a0 and glorify your heavenly Father.\u201d<br><br>At the end of the Gospel, the Deacon, or the Priest, acclaims:<br><br><strong>The Gospel of the Lord.<\/strong><br><br>All reply:<br><br><strong>Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fad899\"><strong>Reflection<\/strong><br><br>&#8216;This rather is the type of fast that I wish:\u00a0to share your bread with the hungry\u00a0and to offer shelter to the homeless poor,\u00a0to clothe the naked when you behold them\u00a0and not turn your back on your own kin.\u201d\u00a0<br><br>We can say that the social problems\u00a0present\u00a0in the\u00a0time of the\u00a0Prophet Isaiah are still with us to this very day.\u00a0\u00a0Through\u00a0its\u00a0social\u00a0commitment\u00a0and various\u00a0works and initiatives, the Church\u00a0encounters\u00a0these challenges\u00a0on a daily basis.\u00a0\u00a0Despite the economic progress that we\u00a0often\u00a0hear about, we still find social situations today\u00a0similar to\u00a0those\u00a0in the Old Testament.\u00a0<br><br>How relevant the Scriptures\u00a0are!\u00a0\u00a0How\u00a0mistaken\u00a0are they that say that the words in Scripture are ancient and have nothing to say about the life we live today!\u00a0\u00a0The Prophet continues to encourage us to not remain indifferent when faced with situations like these but to roll up our sleeves,\u00a0use our hands and see who, where,\u00a0and how we can be of\u00a0assistance.\u00a0<br><br>When I care about those in need,\u00a0the wounds\u00a0caused by my egoism\u00a0are\u00a0healed.\u00a0\u00a0Before me\u00a0stands\u00a0God\u2019s justice\u00a0which\u00a0opens my eyes and\u00a0transforms\u00a0the false\u00a0perceptions\u00a0I have about those in need.\u00a0\u00a0My good and concrete actions lead those that\u00a0benefit\u00a0from them to give glory to the Lord\u00a0for touching my heart and overcoming my indifference to their cry.\u00a0<br><br>In Psalm 111 (112) we pray: \u201cWell for the man who is gracious and lends,\u00a0<br>who conducts his affairs with justice.\u201d\u00a0 Living by justice\u00a0helps me avoid falling\u00a0into the temptation of\u00a0only\u00a0filling\u00a0my\u00a0own\u00a0pockets\u00a0and\u00a0also\u00a0calls me to be concerned\u00a0with seeing that those in need do not lack what is essential,\u00a0as well as\u00a0ministering to\u00a0their other needs.\u00a0\u00a0In the Psalm we also pray \u201cAn evil report he shall not fear;\u00a0his heart is firm.\u201d\u00a0 What causes people to falter most is when they ignore those\u00a0on\u00a0peripheries of society, while they\u00a0continue to live\u00a0insulated\u00a0within\u00a0their own comfort zones.\u00a0\u00a0The following verse in this Psalm states:\u00a0\u201chis heart is firm, trusting in the LORD.\u201d\u00a0 God,\u00a0who is the fountain of every spiritual and material good, consoles us each time He sees us opening our hearts and hands to those who,\u00a0in their sufferings,\u00a0bear His image and likeness.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br>This\u00a0is the\u00a0same \u201cpower of\u00a0God\u201d expressed\u00a0by St Paul to the Corinthians in the Second Reading.\u00a0\u00a0And what is the power of God if not\u00a0that human beings,\u00a0whom He created with great love,\u00a0be given\u00a0the dignity they deserve!\u00a0<br><br>If we heed the words of the Prophet, we will truly become\u00a0the salt of the earth\u00a0that Jesus speaks about in the Gospel.\u00a0\u00a0We will also become the light of the\u00a0world;\u00a0a city built on a mountain\u00a0and\u00a0a\u00a0light on\u00a0a\u00a0lampstand that illuminates the lives of others\u00a0so\u00a0that they may see\u00a0His\u00a0good works and give praise to\u00a0the\u00a0Father in Heaven.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Prayer<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Lord, give us the grace&nbsp;to worship&nbsp;You and&nbsp;to&nbsp;respecting our neighbour,&nbsp;so that we will become&nbsp;the&nbsp;salt of the earth&nbsp;and a reflection of You,&nbsp;who are the light of the world.
