Daytime Prayers, Thursday 14 November 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Psalm 129
<\/strong>God\u2019s people reaffirm their trust in time of affliction<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The voice of the Church lamenting its suffering is heard in this psalm<\/em> (Saint Augustine).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey have pressed me hard from my youth,\u201d *
this is Israel\u2019s song.
\u201cThey have pressed me hard from my youth *
but could never destroy me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They plowed my back like plowmen, *
drawing long furrows.
But the Lord, who is just, has destroyed *
the yoke of the wicked.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let them be shamed and routed, *
those who hate Zion!
Let them be like grass on the roof *
that withers before it flowers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With that no reaper fills his arms, *
no binder makes his sheaves
and those passing by will not say: *
\u201cOn you the Lord\u2019s blessing!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe bless you in the name of the Lord.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Glory to the Father, and to the Son: *
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever.
