Salm 49 (50)

(I)
It-tjieba skond il-Mulej
Jien ma ġejtx biex inwaqqa’ l-Liġi, imma biex inwassalha għall-perfezzjoni. (Mt 5:17) 

Tkellem il-Mulej, Alla fuq l-allat, *
u sejjaħ l-art.
Minn fejn titla’ x-xemx sa fejn tinżel, *
minn Sijon, il-ġmiel tagħha, Alla wera d-dija tiegħu.
Ġej Alla tagħna, ma jibqax sieket; *
quddiemu nar li jeqred, madwaru tempesta qalila. 

Hu jsejjaħ is-smewwiet mill-għoli, *
u l-art, biex jagħmel ħaqq mill-poplu tiegħu:
“Iġimgħu ’l ħbiebi quddiemi, *
li għamlu patt miegħi bis-sagrifiċċju.”
U jħabbru s-smewwiet il-ġustizzja tiegħu, *
għaliex Alla nnifsu jagħmel il-ħaqq. 

Glorja.

Ant. 1: Il-Mulej sejjaħ is-smewwiet u l-art biex jagħmel ħaqq mill-poplu tiegħu.

Ant. 2: Sejjaħli f’jum id-dwejjaq, u jien neħilsek.

Psalm 50
Genuine love of God
I have come not to abolish the law but to bring it to perfection (Matthew 5:17).

I

The God of gods, the Lord, *
has spoken and summoned the earth,
from the rising of the sun to its setting. *
Out of Zion’s perfect beauty he shines.

Our God comes, he keeps silence no longer.

Before him fire devours, *
around him tempest rages.
He calls on the heavens and the earth *
to witness his judgment of his people.

“Summon before me my people *
who made covenant with me by sacrifice.”
The heavens proclaim his justice, *
for God himself is the judge.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.

Ant. The Lord summons heaven and earth to witness his judgment on his people.

Ant. 2 Come to me in your distress, and I will save you.
