L-ewwel frott tal-Ispirtu li San Pawl isemmi fl-Ittra lill-Galatin huwa l-imħabba. Ma naħsibx li stajna nistennew mod ieħor! Għax l-imħabba hija l-qofol ta’ Alla u l-qofol tal-bniedem. San Pawl jitkellem dwar forma partikolari ta’ mħabba billi juża l-kelma ἀγάπη (agape), li tfisser l-imħabba li biha Alla jħobb id-dinja:
Alla hekk ħabb lid-dinja li ta lil Ibnu l-waħdieni, biex kull min jemmen fih ma jintilifx, iżda jkollu l-ħajja ta’ dejjem.

Il-ħila tagħna li ngħixu din il-forma ta’ mħabba kontinwament u sal-aħħar hija dgħajfa. L-aħbar it-tajba hi li mhuwiex meħtieġ l-isforz tagħna imma biss li nħallu lil Alla jħobb fina u permezz tagħna b’dan il-mod totali, mhux biss lil Alla nnifsu imma wkoll lill-oħrajn. Fil-fatt, San Ġwann f’kapitlu 13 juża dan il-verb biex ifisser lid-dixxipli li huma jeħtieġ iħobbu lil xulxin b’din l-imħabba divina li, meta Alla sar bniedem bħalna, tana l-possibbiltà li nesperjenzawha u ngħixuha. Hawnhekk hija wkoll deskritta bħala l-marka per eċċellenza tal-Insara:
“Bħalma ħabbejtkom jien, hekk ukoll ħobbu intom lil xulxin. Minn dan jagħraf kulħadd li intom dixxipli tiegħi, jiġifieri, jekk ikollkom l-imħabba bejnietkom.”

Huwa dan li jrid jimmarka wkoll r-relazzjonijiet ekkleżjali kollha u, nazzarda ngħid, anke fi ħdan il-familji tagħna. Jekk inħallu wisa’ għall-Ispirtu biex jaħdem issir possibbli li ngħixu din il-forma ta’ mħabba ’l barra mill-ħitan kennin tal-Knisja u nerġgħu lura għall-ħajja tas-soltu b’attitudni għal kollox mibdula. Dan il-frott irid ikun bħal donnu libsa li jxiddilna l-Ispirtu sabiex tiġi mħarsa d-dgħufija tagħna u fl-istess waqt negħlbu l-mistħija jew l-biża’ li jżommuna milli ninfetħu għall-imħabba:
Fuq kollox ilbsu l-imħabba, li hi l-qofol tal-perfezzjoni.
