Spiss insibu ruħna maqbudin f’kunflitt bejn l-ideat u r-realtà. Il-kunflitt iqum għax xi kultant dawn ikunu tant distanti minn xulxin. Ir-realtà hi dik li hi, filwaqt li l-ideat jiġu elaborati, xi kultant f’distakk mar-realtà jew saħansitra biex jaħbu r-realtà kif inhi. Iżda, f’Evangelii Gaudium, il-Papa Franġisku jinsisti li r-realtà hi ogħla mill-idea. F’liema sens? Ir-realtà hija oġġettiva, hi li hi. “L-idea … qiegħda hemm biex tgħinna nsibu, nifhmu u nagħtu direzzjoni lir-realtà. L-idea maqtugħa mir-realtà tiftaħ it-triq għal idealiżmi u nominaliżmi li ma jħallux effett, li forsi jaslu biex jikklassifikaw jew jiddefenixxu, imma ma jinvolvux b’mod ħaj” (Par. 232). Mhux biżżejjed li l-ideat ikunu loġiċi u ċari imma jeħtieġ li jkollhom l-għeruq tagħhom fir-realtà.
Dan il-kriterju hu marbut mal-Inkarnazzjoni tal-Verb ta’ Alla. Fil-fatt l-awtur tal-Ewwel Ittra ta’ San Ġwann lill-komunità tiegħu jwissihom hekk: “L-ispirtu ta’ Alla tagħrfuh b’dan: kull spirtu, li jistqarr li Ġesù Kristu sar bniedem, hu minn Alla” (1 Ġw 4, 2). Dan ifisser li:
Il-kriterju tar-realtà, ta’ Kelma li diġà tlaħħmet u li dejjem tfittex li titlaħħam, hu essenzjali għall-evanġelizzazzjoni. Minn naħa, iwassalna biex nagħtu valur lill-istorja tal-Knisja bħala storja ta’ salvazzjoni, biex infakkru l-qaddisin tagħna li inkulturaw l-Evanġelju fil-ħajja tal-ġnus tagħna, biex nagħrfu kemm hi għanja t-tradizzjoni bimillenarja tal-Knisja, bla ma nippretendu li għandna nelaboraw xi forma ta’ ħsieb maqtugħ minn dan it-teżor, bħallikieku ridna nivvintaw mill-ġdid l-Evanġelju aħna. Min-naħa l-oħra, dan il-kriterju jwassalna biex inpoġġu fil-prattika l-Kelma, biex inwettqu opri ta’ ġustizzja u karità fejn din il-Kelma tista’ tħalli l-frott. Jekk ma npoġġuhiex fil-prattika, jekk il-Kelma ma nwassluhiex għar-realtà, inkunu nibnu fuq ir-ramel, nibqgħu mwaħħlin fl-idea pura u nispiċċaw naqgħu f’intimiżmi u njostiċiżmi li ma jħallux frott, li jġibu d-dinamiżmu tagħha sterili.
