Salm 88 (89):2-38 (I)

It-tjieba tal-Mulej mal-familja ta’ David
Alla, minn nisel David, skond il-wegħda tiegħu, ġieb għal Iżrael Salvatur. (Atti 13:22,23)

It-tjieba tal-Mulej irrid dejjem ngħanni; *
f’kull żmien ixandar fommi l-fedeltà tiegħek.
Għax jien għedt: “Tjubitek tibqa’ sħiħa għal dejjem; *
bħas-smewwiet int wettaqt il-fedeltà tiegħek.”

“Għamilt patt mal-magħżul tiegħi, *
ħlift lil David, il-qaddej tiegħi:
‘Jien nagħmel li nislek jibqa’ għal dejjem, *
li f’kull żmien jibqa’ sħiħ it-tron tiegħek.’ ”

Ifaħħru s-smewwiet għeġubijietek, Mulej, *
u l-fedeltà tiegħek fil-ġemgħa tal-qaddisin.
Għax min hemm fis-sema daqs il-Mulej? *
Min jixbaħ lill-Mulej fost dawk li hemm fis-sema?
Tal-biża’ Alla fil-laqgħa tal-qaddisin, *
kbir u tal-biża’ fuq dawk kollha ta’ madwaru.

Mulej, Alla tal-eżerċti, min hu bħalek? *
Int qawwi, Mulej, u l-fidili tiegħek madwarek.
Int taħkem fuq il-baħar imqalleb; *
meta jqumu l-imwieġ int trażżanhom.
Int tisħaq ’il Raħab bħal midrub għall-mewt; *
bi driegħek setgħani tferrex l-għedewwa tiegħek.

Tiegħek is-smewwiet u tiegħek l-art; *
id-dinja b’kulma fiha int waqqaftha.
It-Tramuntana u n-Nofsinhar inti ħlaqthom; *
b’ismek jifirħu t-Tabor u l-Ħermon.

Driegħ kollu qawwa hu driegħek, *
b’saħħitha idek, merfugħa lemintek.
Fuq id-dritt u l-ġustizzja mibni t-tron tiegħek; *
tjieba u fedeltà jgħaddu quddiemek.

Hieni l-poplu li jaf jgħajjat bil-ferħ, *
li jimxi, Mulej, fid-dawl ta’ wiċċek.
B’ismek jithennew il-jum kollu, *
u bil-ġustizzja tiegħek jifirħu.
Għax inti l-foħrija tal-qawwa tagħhom; *
għal tjubitek nerfgħu rasna fl-għoli.
Għax il-Mulej it-tarka tagħna; *
il-Qaddis ta’ Iżrael is-sultan tagħna.

Glorja.

Ant. 1: It-tjieba u l-fedeltà jgħaddu quddiemek, Mulej.

Ant. 2: L-Iben ta’ Alla, skond it-tnissil tal-ġisem, twieled minn nisel ta’ David.

According to his promise, the Lord has raised up Jesus, a Savior, from the family of David (Acts 13:22, 23).

Psalm 89:2-38
God’s favors to the house of David

I

I will sing for ever of your love, O Lord; *
through all ages my mouth will proclaim your truth.
Of this I am sure, that your love lasts for ever, *
that your truth is firmly established as the heavens.

“With my chosen one, I have made a covenant; *
I have sworn to David my servant:
I will establish your dynasty for ever *
and set up your throne through all ages.”

The heavens proclaim your wonders, O Lord; *
the assembly of your holy ones proclaims your truth.
For who in the skies can compare with the Lord *
or who is like the Lord among the sons of God?

A God to be feared in the council of the holy ones, *
great and dreadful to all around him.
O Lord God of hosts, who is your equal? *
You are mighty, O Lord, and truth is your garment.

It is you who rule the sea in its pride; *
it is you who still the surging of its waves.
You crushed the monster Rahab and killed it, *
scattering your foes with your mighty arm.

The heavens are yours, the world is yours. *
It is you who founded the earth and all it holds;
it is you who created the North and the South. *
Tabor and Hermon shout for joy at your name.

Yours is a mighty arm, O Lord; *
your hand is strong, your right hand ready.
Justice and right are the pillars of your throne, *
love and truth walk in your presence.

Happy the people who acclaim such a king, *
who walk, O Lord, in the light of your face,
who find their joy every day in your name, *
who make your justice the source of their bliss.

For you, O Lord, are the glory of their strength; *
by your favor it is that our might is exalted:
for our ruler is in the keeping of the Lord; *
our king in the keeping of the Holy One of Israel.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.

Ant. Wherever you are, Lord, there is mercy, there is truth.

Ant. 2 When the Son of God came into this world, he was born of David’s line.
